DescriptionRevered as an artist with a unique, enigmatic edge and a highly sensitive, deeply caring person, Susan Hauptman quite literally made her mark on the world. Throughout her highly successful career as an artist she studied at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University before moving on and receiving several grants and gallery representation from one of the most renowned facilities in the world, Forum Gallery. Hauptman is known for her artistic exploration, starting with her experiments in two-dimensional design like Line Drawing 101 to her hyper-realistic, otherworldly self-portraits, to a set of still life drawings that she made towards the end of her career. Line Drawing 101 is more than an exercise in line work; it is a peek into Hauptman's psyche. To create a piece like this takes one's full focus, creating lines that weave within one another as they build together to make the final composition. There are references to entanglement, to confusion, and it requires an obsessive artist to create it, and an engulfed viewer to make sense of it.Collections
