DescriptionEd Fraga was born in Imlay City, Michigan, and later went on to receive a BFA from Wayne State University in 1980. He had his first show titled Drawings at the Michigan gallery in 1982. Fraga’s work frequently intertwines figurative subject matter with a quixotic depiction of it—juxtaposing realistically detailed figures with fantastic elements. Part of a series of four paintings titled the Four Seasons, Winter-Resurrection stands as an important work in Fraga’s career as an artist. In 1989, the work was nominated for the Award in the Visual Arts 8, which brought the artist large recognition. Winter-Resurrection, like much of Fraga’s later work, contains the use of symbolic imagery which came to define his work as an artist. Though in his later work the artist employs the use of color, this sculpture stands in contrast because of its monochromatic subject matter, perhaps a reference to the season it is meant to depict.
