DescriptionThe daughter of two visual artists, Kathryn Brackett-Luchs began her artistic journey at the early age of four. Always drawing and always interested in the art scene, Brackett-Luchs moved to the Cass Corridor with her older sister at age fifteen. Surrounded by immense creativity and ingenuity, she was inspired to purchase a Super 8 camera and record the processes of the artists around her, such as Paul Schwarz, Steven Foust, Gordon Newton, and her future husband, Michael Luchs. Her documentation of the studios of the Cass Corridor artists stands as a testament to the hectic and raucous air of the era, and culminated into the film Images from Detroit’s Cass Corridor in collaboration with fellow artist Shaun Bangert. The film premiered at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 2002, and has since been screened at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. Currently, Brackett-Luchs teaches Printmaking and Drawing at the University of Michigan, and exhibits her large-scale block prints in area galleries.
