DescriptionHead of the Painting Department as well as the current artist-in-residence, Beverly Fishman has been working as a full-time artist for over twenty-five years. Fishman's primary subjects for her work are psychological and physiological, combining abstract expressions of human psyche and biological emphasis through various media, including enamel paints and blown glass. In addition to her artistic instruction at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Fishman has been featured in a plethora of one-person exhibitions in New York City, London, Paris, Berlin, and many other principal cities across the world. Fishman's colorful exhibitions are a visual treat, and her piece C.E.L. 109 (1997) can be seen locally at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Fishman's Untitled circa 1990 is an oil on wood collage featuring a perfect amalgamation of physical science and metaphysical expression. The spiral on the left side of the picture plane mirrors a DNA double helix juxtaposed against a background of organic bubbles and orbs. The earthy tones create a warm, realistic setting for the esoteric, colorful shapes that pattern the image.
