DescriptionJack O. Summers is a collagist and photographer who earned both his BA and MFA from Wayne State University. American Pop exemplifies his work in collage and mixed media assemblage, with its layered pop icons and imagery and inclusion of found objects. Playing with the traditional style and format of a religious icon painting, Summers creates a homage to American popular culture and ideals of celebrity. Summers has shown work in numerous exhibitions in the galleries of Detroit and New York. Now retired, Summers was formerly an instructor of photography at the College for Creative Studies and at Grosse Pointe South High School, where he taught for several decades.
