Throughout this period he supported student’s rights to free speech, organized faculty to help rebuild the city and furthered Wayne State’s standing as a leading urban university. Alice Smith was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She came to Detroit to study glass at the College for Creative Studies and received an MFA from WSU in 1995.
