DescriptionReminiscent of minimalist objects of the 1960s and 70s, McArthur Binion?s work focuses on the power held in abstraction and the freedom granted through its expression while maintaining simplicity in presentation. The color and form of Binion?s paintings apparent in Simplicism xvii, make up the narrative, with repetitive markings drawn in with brightly contrasting monochromatic colors. This pattern of compulsion is contained by an enclosed circle, retaining the artist?s abstraction to a composed form. These two elements in turn work with each other to create a balanced, and decidedly minimal, composition.

McArthur Binion holds a BFA from Wayne State University as well as an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Binion is currently based in Chicago as a professor at Columbia College, where he has been teaching since 1992.
