DescriptionA Cloud I Was Speechless is an extremely abstract work of art. As much of what is visually interesting is revealed in the paint texture as it is in the shapes and colors. This massive, 7 feet long by 6 feet tall, canvas is dominated by a field of light blue and black with two vague oblong shapes of salmon and white. Streaks of other, less blended, colors can be seen as well near the corners of the piece.

The brushstrokes, however, really draw the eye in to contemplate the piece. Comparatively small brush marks snake across the piece in an almost sketch-like pattern on the almost dripping, glossy paint surface. Near the top of the painting the lines in the paint are much more tight and zigzagged, while near the middle of the painting the strokes tend towards a straighter and calmer motion. Motion seems to be of a strong interest in this piece overall.

Tino Zago is an italian-american artist who works often in abstract works. He came to the United States in 1948 and went on to study painting at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, where he got his MFA in painting, as well as at Yale University. He has exhibited extensively in New York, and can be found in a long list of art collections. His work, especially later in his career, is influenced by the landscapes and atmospheres of Mushaboom, Nova Scotia and Venezia, Italy, where he travels every year.
